Megan Friar
Megan Friar, mezzo-soprano, is a professional singer based in New York City. As a soloist and a chorister, she has sung with opera companies, orchestras, and choruses around the United States. Career highlights include: The Phantom of the Opera (national tour); Pirates of Penzance (Ruth) and Ruddigore (Dame Hannah) with the NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players; vocal soloist at Carnegie Hall with Dave Brubeck and Musica Sacra; vocal soloist with the Mark Morris Dance Group; member of the Metropolitan Opera extra chorus; and numerous choral recordings from Bach to Cole Porter.
Megan began her career as a high school choral director and a private voice teacher both in CT and NY. She received her degrees in Music Education (BS) and Choral Conducting (MM) from the University of Connecticut. She is married to jazz pianist Ron Drotos with whom she performs, and is the proud mom of John Drotos, a junior at Columbia University and Danny Drotos, a freshman at Ithaca College.
