Priceless

Father Justin takes a look at one of Jesus’ hardest sayings, that it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someone who is wealthy to enter the kingdom of heaven. What seems, at first, to be a legalistic jeremiad turns out to be a word of grace. Jesus’ culture esteemed wealth as a sign of righteousness, or good behavior, and Jesus doesn’t think the love of the one he called “Father” is contingent on our righteousness at all. Love isn’t the sort of thing that either money can buy or good works can earn. God loves us just because God loves us, because we have made us His children in Jesus Christ. Money is good and helpful, but the things that really make life worthwhile are priceless.
