The Lord of Joy

The story of Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11) serves as a powerful reminder that God is not a cosmic killjoy, but the Lord of joy who doesn't mind a good party. This first 'sign' in John's Gospel reveals God's desire for us to experience abundant life. Jesus’ miracle restores the lavish abundance of creation and keeps the joy of the party going. We're encouraged to reflect on how our faith journey is one of celebration and delight, even amid suffering and hardship, rather than the pursuit of suffering for its own sake. Christians are all called to bear the cross, but we do so remembering the reason why Jesus bore His in the first place: that we might live.
