Wilderness and Weakness

Mar 9, 2025

The story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness shows us that God's power is made perfect in weakness. In response to his temptation, Christ chose to fully embrace human limitations rather than using His divine power as an escape. This challenges our own reliance on "self-help" and the illusion of our own omnipotence on which it depends. While self-help banks on our own power, genuine faith banks solely on God's omnipotence, which Christ willingly foregoes in order to be with us in the wildernesses of our lives. The Gospel challenges us to embrace our wilderness experiences not as failures, but as opportunities to draw closer to the God who meets us in our weaknesses.
