God’s invitation – to a Party?
As a mother hen urges her chicks to nestle under the protection of her wings, so Jesus calls us to find comfort in the Kingdom of God. In times of human tragedy, how natural it is to reach out to the Father, crying “my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Yet Lent reminds us, it is not up to God to find us. We must not walk through life, assuming God is standing by to receive our 911 call. The call from Jesus invites us into a two-way relationship. We must first open our heart, soul and mind to accept the invitation. Lent prepares us. These forty days of prayer, meditation and penitence enable us to clear away the dust and clutter of worldly distractions. Lent allows us to put God on speed dial. It prepares our souls to accept the invitation from the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
